Come and join us every Saturday at 5pm and be in the presence of Jesus Christ.
If it's your first time, don't worry, as a form of respect, you should always genuflect when you see the Lord in the Host. Maintain an attitude of respect, and if others are present, silence.
Kneeling, sitting, standing, and even laying on the floor before the Blessed Sacrament are all appropriate forms of prayer. Let your posture reflect your worship of the King and do what is comfortable for you.
Don't panic, let's fix that, don't be afraid to come and confess your sins. If you're thinking of coming along, even if its been a while the Holy Spirit will work with you, and help you confess your sins. At St Luke's we have confession every Saturday at 5pm, you are most welcome, don't be afraid we are here to support you. Maybe though before jumping in you would like to talk to a priest first? If so, just reach out to us in the contact us section.
If it's been a while and you would like some tips on how to prepare for a confession have a look at this video.
Catholics follow a three-year cycle of Scripture reading, so a Catholic who goes to church faithfully will – over those three years – hear almost all of the Bible read. Except if attending Mass alone were sufficient for that end, then Catholics would already know their Bibles back to front.
The fathers of the Second Vatican Council urged Catholics to read Scripture with greater frequency: “The sacred synod forcefully and specifically exhorts all the Christian faithful, especially those who live the religious life, to learn ‘the surpassing knowledge of Jesus Christ’ (Phil. 3:8) by frequent reading of divine Scripture. . . . Therefore, let them go gladly to the sacred text itself, whether in the sacred liturgy, which is full of the divine words, or in devout reading, or in such suitable exercises and various other helps that, with the approval and guidance of the pastors of the Church, are happily spreading everywhere in our day” (Dei Verbum 25).
